Rough and Ready Creek

Josephine County, Oregon

BLM, US Forest Service, & Oregon State Parks

Fees: none

Activity: walking

Elevation: 1330'-1450'

Current status (as of 1/22/25): not blooming

Notes: There's more to Rough & Ready than just the parking area on U.S. 199; you can also access the north side of the creek from Airport Drive.

For an even more out-of-the-way excursion, drive south across the creek on the highway, then turn west on Lone Mountain Road and north on Naue Way, and you'll come to Rough and Ready Creek Preserve (owned by the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy), where there are a few rough trails through the woods. Continuing west and past some houses, you'll come to some small logging roads than can take you down to the creek's floodplain on U.S. Forest Service land.

Peak wildflower bloom at Rough and Ready Creek is typically from early April through the end of May, but there may be some flowers blooming from early March until late June.*

Typical year:

Featured plants: Arabis aculeolata, Diplacus douglasii, Packera macounii, Fritillaria glauca, Sidalcea asprella, Viola hallii
