Pike Creek Canyon

Harney County, Oregon

Bureau of Land Management

Fees: none

Activity: hiking

Elevation: 4100'-6365'

Current status (as of 1/22/25): not blooming

Notes: Surprisingly, this is the only official trail that climbs up the east slope of Steens Mountain. If you're staying at Alvord Hot Springs or you want to pay them $10, you can park at the upper trailhead; otherwise, park for free on Fields-Folly Farm Road and hike an extra 2/3 of a mile each way. (You can also legally ride a mountain bike up from the road as far as the wilderness boundary, about 1.5 miles in.)

Peak wildflower bloom in Pike Creek Canyon is typically from early May through June into early July, but there may be some flowers blooming from early May until mid-July.*
