Habit Plants rarely bulbose; bulb coat, when present, membranous.
Stems

slender, usually branching, ± straight, 2–6 dm.

basal withering, 1–2 dm;

blade linear-attenuate, channeled.

blade lanceolate, flat;

cauline usually present.

bracts 1–2 cm.

subumbellate, 1–5-flowered;

bracts 2–4, linear, attenuate.

Flowers

erect;

perianth open, campanulate;

sepals lanceolate-ovate, 1–2 cm;

petals white, usually flushed pink, with red-brown blotch distal to gland, obovate to cuneate, 2–3 cm, usually rounded distally, with yellowish hairs near gland;

glands rounded, not depressed, covered with linear yellow hairs;

filaments 5–6 mm;

anthers white, oblong, 4–5 mm, apex acute.

perianth open, campanulate;

sepals elliptic-lanceolate, 12–16 mm, glabrous, apex acuminate;

petals ± white to pink, often with purple blotch distal to gland, broadly obovate, cuneate, 15–28 mm, adaxial surface glabrous or sparsely hairy, margins irregularly dentate distally;

glands covered with ciliate membranes, bordered distally by short hairs;

filaments longer than anthers;

anthers oblong, apex obtuse or acute.

Capsules

erect, linear, angled in cross section, 2–3 cm.

nodding, narrowly 3-winged, 1–3 cm.

Seeds

dark brown, irregular.
